Healthy Aging for Adults with Developmental Disabilities & Their Caregivers

February 19 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Free

As we get older, our brains naturally change. For people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), these shifts can occur in unique ways. At the same time, caregivers who support them may also notice changes in their own health. By understanding these changes, you can better support yourself and the person you care for.

In this webinar, we’ll explore the concept of brain health and share valuable resources for promoting healthy aging and dementia prevention. Learn practical steps that caregivers can use and hear firsthand experiences from researchers and caregivers, offering real-life insights and actionable tips on navigating these changes together.

Our Speakers

Dr. Yona Lunsky is a leading researcher and advocate for improving health equity and access for individuals with IDD. Her work at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), including the Brain Health-IDD program, focuses on creating practical solutions to improve mental health, inclusion, and quality of care for people with IDD and their families.

Sandy Stemp brings over 25 years of experience to her role as Chief Operations Officer of Reena, a non-profit organization that promotes dignity, independence, personal growth and community inclusion for people with diverse abilities. With a background in nursing, Sandy applies her knowledge in health and aging to the developmental disabilities sector, where many individuals with complex needs are reaching older age, leading to the creation of new approaches.
