Program Lead, Caregiver Education and Volunteer Engagement

The Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) exists to improve the lives of Ontario’s estimated 4 million caregivers; ordinary people who provide physical and/ or emotional support to a family member, partner, friend, or neighbour. OCO provides caregivers with one point of access to information, services and supports that empower and help enable caregivers to be successful in their role. OCO works in collaboration with caregivers, health care providers and other organizations to address the challenges that caregivers face so that all caregivers – regardless of age, condition, or geographic location – have access to the support they need.

Join Our Team

We are recruiting for a Program Lead, Caregiver Education and Volunteer Engagement. This is currently a vacant position.

This new role represents an exciting opportunity to be part of the Programs and Services Team leading the planning, delivery, growth and evaluation of caregiver education and volunteer engagement programs. The ideal candidate will be a high performing individual who can work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively on a team, with a variety of external partners and directly with caregivers. The candidate will also have experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Caregiver Programs, the Program Lead, Caregiver Education and Volunteer Engagement will be responsible for:

Caregiver Education

  • Collaborative development of an education strategy with on-going refinement to reflect the evolving needs of caregivers
  • Development of new educational resources including presentation templates, tip sheets, toolkits, videos, and other formats
  • Coordination and administration of all aspects of OCO’s Education Program, including assessment of caregiver education interests, topic research, screening, and recruitment of speakers, webinar and other virtual education event planning, registration, promotional material development, live virtual event delivery, post-event follow-up, and event evaluation
  • Development of educational events, webinars, workshops and working groups in collaboration with OCO team members, caregivers, and other external subject matter experts
  • Planning for French virtual events and securing speakers as well as arranging for French adaptations and translations of new or updated content related to the education portfolio
  • Supporting live event chats and connecting caregivers to OCO supports as needed
  • Moderating live events as required
  • Supporting caregivers facing technical barriers during registration process or live events
  • Ongoing collection, organization, and reporting of program metrics, trends and participant feedback
  • Implementation and management of a direct-to-subscriber weekly educational e-letter program aimed at caregivers
  • Relationship management with vendors and service delivery partners related to virtual events, the e-letter program and other related initiatives
  • Identifying and referring caregivers with complex needs to the OCO’s Caregiver Support team
  • Other work as assigned

Volunteer Engagement

  • Lead the recruitment, screening, onboarding, placement, retention, and recognition of volunteers for the OCO team
  • Lead volunteer training and acknowledgment activities
  • Develop tools to support the volunteer program as needed
  • Directly supervise and provide ongoing opportunities for coaching, mentorship, and support to the volunteers supporting caregiver education activities
  • Provide support to other OCO team members as they supervise volunteers within their service areas

Evaluation and Quality Improvement

  • Program monitoring and evaluation to assess impact and inform continuous improvement in the pursuit of achieving key organizational performance and participant outcomes
  • Refine volunteer evaluation processes, collect and integrate volunteer feedback for program enhancements
  • Work closely with the Manager, Caregiver Programs, external stakeholders, and caregiver advisors to explore and develop new opportunities as needed
  • Collaborate with OCO team members to develop innovative solutions to address education needs and further caregiver engagement
  • This role will include investigation and application of automation tools that ensure greatest efficiency while preserving privacy and confidentiality
  • Other work as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in program development, education, community and stakeholder engagement in health care, non-profit, community support, and/or social services
  • Exceptional communication skills – verbally, in writing and in virtual environments
  • Project management experience is an asset
  • Experience managing volunteer teams in a variety of roles
  • Certification in volunteer management is an asset
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • Experience managing external vendors
  • Experience in program planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of multiple program areas
  • Established network with relevant organizations is an asset
  • Compassionate style and good listening skills, ideally with experience engaging caregivers and/or people with lived experience
  • Understanding of and experience in inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility with proven ability to build relationships with organizations and individuals from diverse communities, including those facing barriers to inclusion
  • Ability to foster relationships with professionalism, diplomacy, and trust
  • Ability to develop and deliver action plans with clear goals and timelines
  • Results-oriented, with ability to anticipate and solve challenges or barriers
  • Self-starter with high degree of initiative, resourcefulness, and productivity
  • Highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of caregiver needs and/or lived experience as a caregiver is an asset
  • Strong technical ability and proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications, in particular Microsoft Office, Dynamics 365, Survey Monkey, Zoom, specialized software platforms
  • Ability to speak and write in French is an asset
  • Ability for regular work after hours on weekdays and occasional work on weekends to accommodate pre-arranged meetings or events

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. Post-secondary education in social work, social services, or adult education and/or training in program and volunteer management is an asset.
