Digital Communications Specialist, Full Time – Virtual First (working from home with periodic travel for special events) 

The Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) exists to improve the lives of Ontario’s estimated 4 million caregivers; ordinary people who provide physical and/or emotional support to a family member, partner, friend, or neighbour.

OCO provides caregivers with one point of access to information, services and supports that empower and help enable caregivers to be successful in their role.

OCO works in collaboration with caregivers, health care providers and other organizations to address the challenges that caregivers face so that all caregivers – regardless of age, condition, or geographic location – have access to the support they need.

The OCO is recruiting a Digital Communications Specialist to support the increasing communications needs of the organization. This role reports to the Manager, Communications.

Salary range: $70,000 — $80,000 per annum

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for contributing to the overall digital communications strategy, implementing it across OCO’s various communication channels through stories that inspire, engage, and inform.

Meeting our audience where they are, they understand how to craft and repurpose content to match the nuances of each platform, while staying true to OCO’s tone and voice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create seasonal and evergreen content in English and French for diverse audience segments among caregivers and key healthcare system players in Ontario, focusing on web, email (including newsletters, automated campaigns, and more) and social media (focusing on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube).
  • Ensure our brand, tone, and voice are consistent across our channels, supporting with the creation of appealing and accessible visual assets.
  • Work closely with OCO teams and vendors on the strategic planning, design, and execution of seasonal and evergreen communications content (such as videos, digital campaigns, posters, one-pagers, and more) to support their goals (such as increasing awareness and engagement with their respective target audience, fulfilling partner commitments, and more).
  • Manage community engagement online, monitoring and participating in conversations on social media and reporting any issues or opportunities.
  • Analyze channel performance, reporting on key metrics to ensure our digital strategy is on-track and using data to identify what’s working, where we can improve, and what resonates most with our audience to inform new content, campaigns, and strategies.
  • Manage the content and functionality of OCO’s website as the primary editor, ensuring it is user-friendly, optimized for SEO, and kept up to date by researching and developing new content in collaboration with other teams, troubleshooting, and ensuring AODA accessibility standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of communications or marketing experience.
  • Excellent communicator, strategic thinker, and self-starter who is reliable, resourceful, and detail-oriented: consistently clarifying ideas, keeping teams aligned, and delivering on time-sensitive tasks. 
  • Creative writer who gives attention to facts without sacrificing the heart of storytelling and is adept at translating dense, complex information into engaging content that’s easy to understand.
  • Experienced in online community management with a proven record of growing an engaged audience.
  • Experience using social media monitoring (Sprout Social) and native platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube) to schedule content, monitor engagement, analyze data, and produce compelling reports.
  • Experience working with a health organization, Government of Ontario Ministry and/or a non-profit organization would be considered assets.
  • May require some travel, time after hours and on weekends to accommodate events and meetings.
  • Experience as a caregiver is highly desired.

Key skills & proficiencies

  • Experience with social media, email marketing, media, and project management platforms such as Sprout Social, Cyberimpact, Meltwater, and ClickUp.
  • Adept at basic graphic design and video editing, using tools such as Canva and Clipchamp.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adept at collaborating with individuals and teams with different priorities, goals, and communication styles. 
  • Organized with a keen attention to detail, effective at prioritizing tasks to deliver work on-time and at the highest standard.
  • Self-motivated and autonomous, able to manage workload independently with minimal oversight.
  • Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.
