As a caregiver, understanding how you can help your care recipient following a hip fracture can improve their chances of making a full recovery and help avoid more serious risks, including losing their mobility, independence, or further declines in health. In the hours and days following a hip fracture, caregivers can play a key role in advocating for their care recipient as they move from the emergency department to their post-operative recovery.
They can also work with the health care team to screen for and manage delirium, assist with daily mobilization, and take steps to help their care recipient avoid future bone fractures. The first step is knowing what high-quality care for hip fracture looks like and what you can do to support your care recipient.
