SUMMARY:POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS
DESCRIPTION:Caring for a family member or friend with a chronic condition can be physically\, emotionally\, and financially draining. This self-care educational program for family caregivers builds the skills caregivers need to take better care of themselves as they provide care for others. Caregiver participants learn to minimize the potentially negative impacts of caregiving in a six-week program emphasizing self-care and empowerment. \nThis FREE workshop consists of six 90 minute class sessions held once a week and led by experienced class leaders.  Class participants are given The Caregiver Helpbook to accompany the class and provide additional caregiver resources. \n6 Classes with a direct focus:\nClass #1:  Taking Care of You \nClass #2:  Identifying and Reducing Personal Stress \nClass #3:  Communicating Feelings\, Needs\, and Concerns \nClass #4:  Communicating in Challenging Situations \nClass #5:  Learning From Our Emotions \nClass #6:  Mastering Caregiving Decisions \nWorkshops are currently being offered virtually through Zoom. A personal computer\, laptop\, tablet or mobile phone with Internet access is required to connect to the workshop. If you are using a computer that does not have a microphone built in\, then you will need a microphone or headset. A week prior to the workshop\, instructions will be sent on how to join the group. There is no cost to attend. Registration is required and space is limited.

SUMMARY:8-week family support program for family members who are caregivers to their loved ones who have a mental illness
DESCRIPTION:Community outreach services (COS) are offered through Michael Garron Hospital’s (MGH) mental health services. \nThe family support program offers an eight week group series to assist families and friends of individuals with a major mental illness. The program is co-ordinated by a member of The College of Psychologists with over 30 years of experience working in the mental health services. \nOUR GOALS\n\nTo decrease the stressors family members often experience\nTo enhance the family’s understanding of mental illness\nTo increase the family’s ability to cope with the illness\nTo provide an opportunity to meet with other family members\n\nFor further information and to register call 416-461-2000 ext. 223

DESCRIPTION:Community outreach services (COS) are offered through Michael Garron Hospital’s (MGH) mental health services. \nThe family support program offers an eight week group series to assist families and friends of individuals with a major mental illness. SUMMARY:POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS
DESCRIPTION:Caring for a family member or friend with a chronic condition can be physically\, emotionally\, and financially draining. This self-care educational program for family caregivers builds the skills caregivers need to take better care of themselves as they provide care for others. Caregiver participants learn to minimize the potentially negative impacts of caregiving in a six-week program emphasizing self-care and empowerment. \nThis FREE workshop consists of six 90 minute class sessions held once a week and led by experienced class leaders.  Class participants are given The Caregiver Helpbook to accompany the class and provide additional caregiver resources. \n6 Classes with a direct focus:\nClass #1:  Taking Care of You \nClass #2:  Identifying and Reducing Personal Stress \nClass #3:  Communicating Feelings\, Needs\, and Concerns \nClass #4:  Communicating in Challenging Situations \nClass #5:  Learning From Our Emotions \nClass #6:  Mastering Caregiving Decisions \nWorkshops are currently being offered virtually through Zoom. A personal computer\, laptop\, tablet or mobile phone with Internet access is required to connect to the workshop. If you are using a computer that does not have a microphone built in\, then you will need a microphone or headset. A week prior to the workshop\, instructions will be sent on how to join the group. There is no cost to attend. Registration is required and space is limited.

For some people\, however\, a peaceful night’s sleep is just out of reach. Sleep issues often bring unwelcome challenges\, not just to the affected person\, but to their family and loved ones. (Consider\, for example\, loud snoring and sleep apnea!) \nJoin Fraser Willsey\, a sleep technician at the Sleep Disorders Clinic at The Royal\, for this introduction to sleep disorders\, common sleep issues\, and respective treatments. Topics for discussion include: the link between sleep and mental health; sleep issues for different ages and stages; strategies to offset sleep deprivation; a review of helpful resources about sleep. DESCRIPTION:Join Family Councils Ontario on June 6th\, 7th\, and 8th 2023 for our annual conference. \nThis year our theme is It Starts With Us\, a reminder and recognition that change starts with each and every one of us and that Family Councils have the capacity to impact major changes in their homes. \nOur conference will feature three keynote presentations\, as well as panel discussions\, entertainment\, and networking events. We will be joined for opening remarks by a speaker from the Minister of Long-Term Care’s office and will close our conference with resources and next steps. \nAdmission to our conference is by donation through Eventbrite.
