DESCRIPTION:Are you a parent or caregiver feeling overwhelmed\, anxious\, or unsure? You’re not alone. \nWhen you’re parenting or caring for a child with developmental disabilities\, mental health challenges\, or other complex needs\, it can add another layer of emotional complexity. OCO welcomes the George Hull Centre for a supportive webinar on managing caregiver anxiety and reminding you that there is ‘no shame in your game’ as a parent or caregiver. \nIn this session\, you’ll learn: \n\n• How anxiety and trauma can impact caregiving\, especially within racialized families and communities\n• Real caregiver stories that may reflect your own challenges and offer new ways to copy and connect\n• Practical tools and strategies to feel more empowered in your role and amplify the work that you’re doing\n\nOur Speakers:\nKaren Mighty is the Director of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion at the George Hull Centre for Children and Families. In addition to her professional expertise\, Karen brings valuable lived experience as a caregiver to her teenage son\, who has a diagnosis of Anxiety\, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)\, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. SUMMARY:Medications as We Age: Information to Support Caregiving
DESCRIPTION:Are you caregiving for someone who takes medications? Have you ever wondered if each of their medications is still right for them? Medications can offer significant benefits\, but as we age\, our bodies may become more sensitive to their effects. Some medications that were once helpful might no longer be necessary or could even cause harm. \nJoin us for an informative session hosted by the Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network. This session will provide valuable insights and practical tips to help you ensure that your care recipient’s medications are still needed and beneficial. \nIn this presentation\, we will explore: \n\nHow aging can increase sensitivity to medications\nThe importance of regular “medication check-ups”\, and how to collaborate with healthcare professionals to prevent harmful side effects\nEssential questions to ask about your care recipient’s medication\n\nThe Canadian Medication Appropriateness and Deprescribing Network is a collaborative group of individuals with lived experience\, clinicians\, educators\, policymakers\, and researchers. They work together to create\, share\, and apply information that promotes the safe and appropriate use of medications for all Canadians. \nDisclaimer: Please note that the information provided in this webinar is for educational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice. Always consult with a healthcare professional before making any changes to your care recipient’s medications.

SUMMARY:The Future is Old: How Caregivers Can Combat Ageism & Promote Dignity
DESCRIPTION:Ageism is one of society’s most ingrained prejudices\, affecting not only how we view older adults but how we see ourselves as we age. \nFor caregivers\, understanding the impact of ageism is crucial in providing the best care and promoting well-being for those you support. This webinar will explore the power of language\, attitude\, and belief in shaping how we age. Learn how adopting positive age beliefs can increase longevity\, enhance quality of life\, and change the trajectory for both caregivers and care recipient. \nBy shifting the narrative and challenging harmful stereotypes\, you can help instill a deep sense of value and respect in yourself and those you care for. Join us in creating a future where aging is embraced\, not feared. \nOur speaker: Jenna Wickens is the MatureMinds Coordinator at CFS Counseling & Wellbeing\, where she provides advocacy\, education\, programs\, volunteer opportunities\, and community resource consultation for older adults. As a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging\, Jenna is dedicated to raising awareness and ensuring that “growing old” is viewed as an opportunity rather than a liability.
