SUMMARY:Do-It-Yourself Acupressure for Stress Relief: Tools for Caregiver Self-Care
DESCRIPTION:Caring for yourself is one of the most important—and one of the most often forgotten—things you can do as a caregiver. When your needs are taken care of\, the person you care for will benefit\, too. Regardless of age\, sex\, and race and ethnicity\, caregivers report problems attending to their own health and well-being while managing caregiving responsibilities. As caregivers experience varying levels of stress and burnout; self-care is central to creating balance in one’s daily life and caregiving journey. \nThe Ontario Caregiver Organization is proud to present Christine Fung; an Acupuncturist for over 20 years. This session will be focused on self-help acupressure techniques to help relieve stress and improve well-being. This session is great for all ages and those who are looking to get instant relief from stress\, anxiety and insomnia. \nChristine has spent over the past 10 years working as an acupuncturist helping patients to achieve their optimal wellness. She strongly believes that traditional acupuncture is an effective alternative medicine in conjunction with conventional medical treatments for ailments. \nChristine runs her own practice in Mississauga\, Acupuncture Shiatsu Clinic which has been established for over 20 years. She has received several awards throughout the years. She has received the Community Building Award presented by Bathurst-Finch Network in 2012\, Top Acupuncturist in Mississauga presented by Top Choice Awards in 2011 and 2013\, and Three Best Rated Acupuncturist in Mississauga in 2017\, 2018 and 2019.

SUMMARY:Cultivating Mindfulness for Well-being Among Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Many caregivers frequently experience stress\, anxiety\, depression and loneliness. Mindfulness helps us stay in the present so that we can manage negative emotions and build emotional strength. This\, in turn\, allows us to care for our loved ones more effectively. \nThe Ontario Caregiver Organization is proud to present Dr. Alexandra Fiocco; Director of the Stress and Healthy Aging Research Laboratory at Ryerson University. In this presentation\, Dr. Fiocco will discuss the impact that chronic stress has on the mind and body. She will encourage attendees to identify the ingredients to their stress and how the experience of stress is manifested in the body. Dr. Fiocco will also provide an overview of mindfulness meditation\, an evidence-based stress-management tool that has been shown to decrease stress and support the wellbeing of family caregivers. Attendees will also be invited to engage in a short sitting practice before opening the floor for Q&A. \nBio: Dr. Alexandra Fiocco is an Associate Professor and Director of the Stress and Healthy Aging Research Laboratory at Ryerson University. Her research focuses on the impact of stress and lifestyle behaviours on emotional and cognitive wellbeing in later adulthood. She has been practicing mindfulness meditation for 10 years\, has engaged in mindfulness research for 6 years\, and is a Qualified Teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as defined by the University of California San Diego Mindfulness-based Professional Training Institute.
