DESCRIPTION:Le temps des repas peut être un moment difficile pour l’enfant autiste et sa famille. Cette série abordera les difficultés d’alimentation ainsi que des stratégies concrètes pour soutenir l’enfant au moment des repas. \nPartie 1 : Facteurs qui influencent les difficultés d’alimentation chez l’enfant autiste – 7 juin\, 19 h 00 \n\nComment les difficultés d’alimentation se manifestent\nFacteurs comportementaux\, environnementaux\, sensoriels et oro-moteurs qui entrent en jeu au moment des repas\n\nPartie 2 : Soutenir les moments de repas – 21 juin\, 19 h 00 \n\nDiscussion sur des stratégies de soutien au niveau de l’organisation du temps et de l’espace et du développement des habiletés oro-motrices nécessaires pour manger.\nSoutenir les habiletés d’auto-alimentation (se nourrir seul)\n\nVéronique (Véro) Chiasson est une ergothérapeute bilingue qui adore travailler avec les enfants et leur famille. Véro a été la première formatrice francophone au niveau international à former et à certifier des professionnels dans le cadre du modèle d’intervention précoce Denver (Early Start Denver Model)\, une approche d’intervention précoce comportementale et développementale naturelle pour les enfants avec un diagnsotic de TSA ou porteurs de signes de TSA âgés de 12 à 48 mois. Véronique enseigne également à temps partiel au programme d’ergothérapie de l’Université d’Ottawa ainsi qu’à La Cité dans le programme d’assistant en ergothérapie et d’assistant en physiothérapie.

SUMMARY:Moving Past the Pandemic- Considerations for Autistic Children and their Caregivers Across Canada
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for many but recent research suggests that the mental health and overall wellbeing of families of children on the autism spectrum have been disproportionally impacted by multiple waves of lockdowns across Canada. In this panel with researchers Dr. Vivian Lee (Carleton University) and Jonathan Weiss (York University)\, as well as researcher-parent Dr. Janet McLaughlin (Wilfred Laurier)\, Matthew Ley (host) will discuss the current research on how autistic children and their families have been impacted by the pandemic but also ways in which families have been able to cope and thrive. Long term implications of the pandemic will be discussed as well as ways we can continue supporting caregivers and families as we move forward past the pandemic.
