DESCRIPTION:On April 2nd\, the RLC will host our first Caregiver Appreciation Event to inform\, inspire and lift up caregivers in recognition of the essential care that they provide. \nThe Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence will get things started by highlighting the work they are doing to improve the caregiver experience. \nDr. Zachary White\, Professor of Communication at Queen’s University of Charlotte\, will discuss the caregiver journey and all its unexpected surprises along the way. \nOur third speaker\, Margarita Rabinovich\, registered psychotherapist\, will lead us through a mindfulness meditation session for the caregiver soul. \nJoin us for the full event or attend the portions that you are able. This event is for YOU and about YOU! \nWe hope that you will be able to take part in this celebration of the most vital contributors to the healthcare team- caregivers!

SUMMARY:Powerful Tools for Caregivers Workshop - Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Powerful Tools for caregivers is a FREE six-week workshop series designed to provide caregivers with the tools needed to look after themselves. The program helps to reduce stress\, improve self-confidence and communication\, find balance and identify valuable community resources. \nParticipants receive a free copy of the book “ The Caregiver Helpbook”. \n  \nVIRTUAL Workshop \nThe workshop will be delivered using a password secured Zoom platform. Participants will be able to interact with facilitators and other members of the group. You will need a personal computer\, laptop\, tablet or mobile phone with internet access to connect to the workshop. If you are using a computer that does not have a microphone built in you will need a microphone or headset. \nFurther instructions will be sent to you prior to the start of the workshop.

The OCO is pleased to welcome Ontario’s Patient Ombudsman\, Craig Thompson to talk about what the office of the Patient Ombudsman is\, what it does and what caregivers need to know about making health care complaints in Ontario. In this presentation\, you will learn about:\n• How the Patient Ombudsman works with patients\, residents\, caregivers\, and health organizations to resolve complaints\n• Examples of complaints the Patient Ombudsman helps resolve\n• What the Patient Ombudsman can and cannot do for caregivers\n• How to make a complaint when your care recipient has a negative health care experience\, including best practices for caregivers \nOur Speaker: Craig Thompson is Ontario’s Patient Ombudsman.
