Protecting your privacy is important to The Ontario Caregiver Organization. This Policy explains how The Ontario Caregiver Organization collects, uses, and discloses the personal information you may provide (as described below) while using www.ontariocaregiver.ca and any other web sites operated by The Ontario Caregiver Organization, including any surveys, tools, apps, forums, event and course registration pages, contest entries, and/or donations (the “Web Sites“), as well as the electronic publications, newsletter, and announcements you have access to on the Web Sites (“Electronic Communications“). By using the Web Sites, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this Policy. Information Automatically Collected
Non-Identifying Information – The Web Sites may automatically collect certain non-identifying information regarding users of the Web Sites, such as the IP address of your computer, the IP address of your Internet service provider, the date and time you access the Web Sites, the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to the Web Sites, the operating system you are using, the sections of the Web Sites you visit, the pages of the Web Sites read and images viewed, the materials you post to or download from the Web Sites, and account information or user content from which we have removed personal information. This non-identifying information is used for the operation of our web services, to maintain quality of the services, to provide general statistics regarding use of our web services and to undertake and publish research.
We make no attempt to link this information with the identity of individuals visiting our Web Sites. We may, however, review service logs for security purposes, for example to detect intrusions into our network. The possibility therefore exists that service log data, which contains visitors’ IP addresses, could in instances of criminal malfeasance (for example) be used to trace and identify individuals. In such instances, raw data logs would be shared with the appropriate investigative bodies authorized to investigate such breaches of security. Cookies – The Web Sites may use “cookies”, a technology that installs information on a website user’s computer to permit the website to recognize future visits using that computer. Cookies enhance the convenience and use of a website. Personal Information You Specifically Provide to the Web Sites
Your Personal Information – During your use of the Web Sites, you may be asked to voluntarily provide certain personal information, including, but not limited to your:
- name and email address and country/province/territory in which you live to register you for mailing lists or surveys or user accounts and to authenticate you when you sign in;
- credit card and address where you are making a donation to The Ontario Caregiver Organization or purchasing an item from the Web Sites; and
- information about your caregiving experience when using our tools for self-assessment purposes.
User Account Information – Some of our surveys, tools, apps, forums, events, contests, courses and services require you to register by creating a user account. We also require you to pick a user name which we use to identify you in our systems and which will appear beside any comments you post. Your comments and user name may be visible to other users where sharing functionality exists.

Use of Your Personal Information – The Ontario Caregiver Organization may use your personal information to contact and correspond with you including to:
- manage our relationship with you and provide you with customer service;
- manage our business and operations;
- respond to your inquiries;
- contact you for fundraising purposes;
- facilitate and process your registration for certain courses, events and services;
- grant access to certain special features or areas of the Web Sites, where you have applied for access to or have posted information to those special features;
- issue tax receipts where applicable;
- track communications with you;
- provide you with a customized interactive experience;
- send support emails;
- send you caregiver-related information;
- help The Ontario Caregiver Organization develop new services, surveys, tools, apps, forums, events, contests, courses or website features that meet your needs;
- improve the Web Sites;
- provide you with the Electronic Communications you request; and
- as otherwise permitted or required by law.
The Ontario Caregiver Organization employees, agents and service providers are subject to role-based access only. They use personal information securely and only for authorized purposes within the scope of their roles at The Ontario Caregiver Organization.
Electronic Communications from The Ontario Caregiver Organization – At any time you may unsubscribe or ask The Ontario Caregiver Organization to stop sending you Electronic Communications and other information by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. Please allow two to three business days for the cancellation to take effect.
Disclosure of Your Personal Information – The Ontario Caregiver Organization may disclose your personal information to:
- a government institution that has asserted its lawful authority to obtain the information or where The Ontario Caregiver Organization has reasonable grounds to believe the information could be useful in the investigation of unlawful activity:
- comply with a subpoena or warrant or an order made by a court, person or body with jurisdiction to compel the production of information, or to comply with court rules regarding the production of records and information;
- protect the rights and property of The Ontario Caregiver Organization; or

If The Ontario Caregiver Organization is involved in a merger or other reorganization, The Ontario Caregiver Organization may also disclose your personal information to the resulting organization or individual.
Disclosure of Personal Information Provided to Forums – If you voluntarily submit or post any information, photographs or other content (“User Content”) to any The Ontario Caregiver Organization forums, social networking pages or sites (such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn), certain of your personal information may be automatically included in the posting, including without limitation, your user name and email address and this information may be collected and used by others. The Ontario Caregiver Organization has no control over and is not liable for the collection, use or disclosure of any posted User Content or your included personal information by users of the Web Sites, forums, social networking pages/sites. Any personal information posted, used or disclosed via The Ontario Caregiver Organization forum, social networking page or site is not subject to this Policy. You are responsible for ensuring the protection of any of your personal information that you post on The Ontario Caregiver Organization forum, social networking page or site. We recommend that you do not include your home address, job title, telephone number or other more sensitive personal information in any User Content, unless you are entirely satisfied that such information should be made public.
Storing and Securing Your Information – To help protect the confidentiality of your personal information, The Ontario Caregiver Organization employs security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Nevertheless, due to the nature of the Internet and Internet technologies, security and privacy risks cannot be eliminated and The Ontario Caregiver Organization cannot guarantee that your personal information will not be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Policy.
Retention of Information – The Ontario Caregiver Organization retains your personal information only as long as it is required for the purposes for which it was collected or as required by federal and provincial laws. Any personal information collected by The Ontario Caregiver Organization will be retained to assist us to meet our mandate and for business and legal purposes. Personal information we hold is secured stored and protected from loss, theft, unauthorized use, disclosure, modification or destruction.
Accessing Your Personal Information – You may request access to your personal information and information about the collection, use and disclosure of that information by The Ontario Caregiver Organization by contacting email@example.com. You can help The Ontario Caregiver Organization maintain the accuracy of your information by notifying The Ontario Caregiver Organization of any changes to your personal information.
Withdrawal of Consent – Where we have asked for your consent, you may withdraw your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information about you at any time. You play a critical role in protecting your privacy.
